MCC Softball Falls to Northwest Mississippi

The Meridian Community College softball team returned to the
field on Saturday by playing host to Northwest Mississippi Community College in
a pair of crucial conference games at Northeast Park. The Lady Eagles didn’t
find much luck against the visiting Lady Rangers and dropped both contests by
final scores of 6-1. MCC dropped its overall record to 13-27 overall and 10-16
in conference action. MCC will close out the 2016 regular season on Sunday with
a pair of home games against East Central Community College beginning at 2 p.m.
MCC collected 11 total hits in Game One against Northwest,
but couldn’t overcome three errors to fall by a final score of 6-1. Mia Johnson
led the way at the plate for MCC with three hits and an RBI, while Shania
Richardson finished with two hits in three plate appearances. Anna Lloyd, Josie
Anderson, and Kandler Flora each ended Game One with one single apiece. Angel
Thornton suffered the pitching loss on the mound in Game One for MCC by working
seven innings and collecting three strikeouts.
MCC only managed three total hits as a team in Game Two
against Northwest and lost by the same final score of 6-1. Mia Johnson led the
effort at the plate in defeat with a homer, while Anna Lloyd added a single.
Payton Fox suffered the pitching loss in Game Two for MCC by working four
innings and allowing three earned runs.
