MCC Golf Finishes Regular Season on Strong Note

The Meridian Community College golf team concluded its final
tournament of the regular season on Tuesday by playing host to the Jim Redgate
Invitational at Briarwood Country Club. MCC finished tied for first place with
Co-Lin Community College with a total team score of 584, but the Eagles would
eventually lose the team title in a playoff to the Wolves.
Grant Renegar was the top medalist among all players in the
field by firing a final round score of 72 which was three strokes better than
Phillip Heine of Co-Lin Community College. Former Lamar star Lance Strickland
also had a strong showing by finishing tied for second place with a final round
score of 71 which was one of the lowest rounds among of the field on Tuesday.
Camden Backel also finished tied for 10th with a two-day
score of 150 (75,75), while Colby Evans finished tied for 14th with a two-round
score of 151 (79,72). Clayton Gray finished in 17th position for MCC with a
two-round score of 152 (78,74) and Malachi Spears played as an individual for
the Eagles to finish with a two-round score of 154 (76,78) which was good
enough for a tie in 20th place.
Northwest Mississippi Community College finished in third
place with a team score of 612, while East Central Community College place in
fourth place as a team with a score of 614. East Mississippi Community College
finished in fifth, Itawamba Community College placed sixth, and Hinds Community
College rounded out the field with a seventh place finish among the field.
MCC will now move on to the postseason portion of the its
schedule and will compete in the 2016 MACJC State Tournament this weekend which
will be played at Shiloh Ridge Golf Course in Corinth, MS.
