MCC Track Set to Host MCC Relays

Meridian, MS – MCC will host their annual home track meet
the MCC Relay Invitational on Saturday with a new team added to the second year
event.
Last season MCC hosted the other two community college’s in
Mississippi that have track and field programs in Hinds and Coahoma. This
year the teams scheduled to compete include MCC, Hinds, Coahoma, and NAIA
school William Carey out of Hattiesburg, MS.
“This is turning in to a great event on our schedule, especially
with the opportunity for our team to compete in front of a home crowd for a
change,” said Head Coach Chip Gayden. “We are always trying to make sure
we can make this a spectator friendly event when it comes to the time frame and
I believe we do it well, with the meet lasting about 4 hours.”
The MCC Relay Invitational will have some marquee events on
the track this Saturday and it will start early at 12:20 p.m. with the 4x100
meter relay which will feature the number one and number three teams in the
NJCAA in the event in Hinds and MCC.
Two other sprint events will be must see events on Saturday
including the 100 meters and 200 meters for both men and women. In the
100 meters for women, MCC will see the outdoor debut of Ashley Henderson who
finished 6th at the NJCAA Indoor National Championships in the 60
meters.
On the men’s side Cravorkian Carson will look to improve on his
time of 10.56 which won the event at the MC Twilight last Friday. In the
200 meters for the women, Henderson will look to pick up right where she left
off during the indoor season which saw her finish runner-up at the NJCAA
National Championships. On the men’s side, MCC will put Chris Lewis,
Terrance Johnson and Devarius Turner on the track.
In the distance events, MCC will compete in both men’s and
women’s 10,000 meters, the men’s 1500 meters and the men’s 800 meters.
The MCC Relay Invitational will begin Saturday with the
men’s 10,000 meters beginning at 11:00 a.m. and the final event the 4x400 meter
relay beginning at 4:00. Admission is free.
