MCC Softball Splits Road Set at Holmes CC

The Meridian Community College softball team continued
its difficult run of MACJC games by taking to the road on Saturday to play a
doubleheader against Holmes Community College.
The Lady Eagles split its doubleheader with Holmes on
Saturday by falling in Game One by a final count of 3-2 and fighting back in
Game Two to take a victory over Holmes by the same margin.
MCC is now 10-24 overall for the season after the split
with Holmes and 7-13 in the MACJC standings. MCC will return to conference
action next Friday (April 9) with a home doubleheader at Tommy McDonald Field
against Pearl River Community College scheduled for a start time of 1 p.m.
MCC jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after two innings in
Game One, but couldn't muster enough offense to fall to Holmes by a final of
3-2.
Shania Richardson led MCC at the plate in Game One with
three hits and two of those hits were doubles. Alex Riser and Brianna Duquette
accounted for the other two hits in the game for MCC with one single apiece.
Angel Thornton suffered the loss on the loss on the mound
in Game One for MCC by tossing four innings and collecting three strikeouts.
The Lady Eagles bounced back in Game Two to salvage the
split with Holmes in dramatic fashion by a final of 3-2. Angel Thornton led MCC
in Game Two by notching the pitching win with a complete game.
Mycahla Howard led MCC at the plate in Game Two with and
RBI triple, while Keelee Ladnier added an RBI single. Anna Lloyd checked in
with a double for the Lady Eagles in three plate appearances, while Mia Johnson
added a single in the one-run victory.
