MCC Baseball Splits Road Set at ECCC

The Meridian Community College baseball team returned to
action on Tuesday night with a pair of conference road games at East Central
Community College in Decatur, MS. The Eagles were able to grab a victory in
Game One over the Warriors by a final of 11-4, but ECCC was able to salvage the
split with MCC by taking Game Two by a final count of 8-4.
MCC moved its overall record to 27-7 for the 2016 season and
12-6 in conference action after the road split on Tuesday with the Warriors.
MCC will return to the diamond this Saturday with a home conference
doubleheader at Scaggs Field against Holmes Community College beginning at 3
p.m.
MCC got a solid pitching performance in Game One on Tuesday
night from sophomore Kyle Bayles to take an 11-4 victory over East Central.
Bayles tossed seven innings, surrendered six hits, two earned runs, and notched
five strikeouts in the outing. Bayles also picked up three base hits in the
victory for the Eagles and drove in two runs in the effort.
Nate Romans also helped the cause for the Eagles with a
three-run homer, while Eason Weeks drove in a pair of runs on two base hits for
the green and white. Dalton Smith and Daniel Hill each added two singles
apiece, while Baylor Obert scored two runs on a base hit in the victory. MCC
finished the opening game of the doubleheader with 14 total hits, while the
Warriors were held to eight hits in the loss.
MCC found it difficult to climb out of a 6-0 hole after two
innings of play in Game Two and lost at the hands of the Warriors by a final of
8-4. MCC answered back with three runs in the top of the 3rd inning, but
couldn’t draw any closer to the Warriors in the losing effort.
Matt Berler led MCC at the plate in Game Two with a two-run
double, while Kyle Bayles picked up an RBI single. Former West Lauderdale star
Daniel Hill added an RBI single and Eason Weeks scored one run on a base hit in
the Game Two loss.
Sophomore Hunter Mullis suffered the pitching loss for the
Eagles in Game Two by working 1 1/3 innings and surrendering five earned runs.
