MCC Baseball Splits Road Set at ECCC

From School Reports

The Meridian Community College baseball team returned to action on Tuesday night with a pair of conference road games at East Central Community College in Decatur, MS. The Eagles were able to grab a victory in Game One over the Warriors by a final of 11-4, but ECCC was able to salvage the split with MCC by taking Game Two by a final count of 8-4.

MCC moved its overall record to 27-7 for the 2016 season and 12-6 in conference action after the road split on Tuesday with the Warriors. MCC will return to the diamond this Saturday with a home conference doubleheader at Scaggs Field against Holmes Community College beginning at 3 p.m.

MCC got a solid pitching performance in Game One on Tuesday night from sophomore Kyle Bayles to take an 11-4 victory over East Central. Bayles tossed seven innings, surrendered six hits, two earned runs, and notched five strikeouts in the outing. Bayles also picked up three base hits in the victory for the Eagles and drove in two runs in the effort.

Nate Romans also helped the cause for the Eagles with a three-run homer, while Eason Weeks drove in a pair of runs on two base hits for the green and white. Dalton Smith and Daniel Hill each added two singles apiece, while Baylor Obert scored two runs on a base hit in the victory. MCC finished the opening game of the doubleheader with 14 total hits, while the Warriors were held to eight hits in the loss.

MCC found it difficult to climb out of a 6-0 hole after two innings of play in Game Two and lost at the hands of the Warriors by a final of 8-4. MCC answered back with three runs in the top of the 3rd inning, but couldn’t draw any closer to the Warriors in the losing effort.

Matt Berler led MCC at the plate in Game Two with a two-run double, while Kyle Bayles picked up an RBI single. Former West Lauderdale star Daniel Hill added an RBI single and Eason Weeks scored one run on a base hit in the Game Two loss.

Sophomore Hunter Mullis suffered the pitching loss for the Eagles in Game Two by working 1 1/3 innings and surrendering five earned runs.
