MCC Golf Wins Honesty Pays Invitational Championship

The Meridian Community College golf team gained a huge
amount of momentum on Thursday afternoon heading into the final few weeks of
the 2016 spring season by capturing the Honesty Pays Invitational Championship
at Patrick Farms Golf Course in Brandon, MS. The Eagles won the tournament
title by 11 strokes over Co-Lin Community College by finishing with a team
score of 287 which was one under par. Mississippi College placed in third among
the field with a score of 300 and East Mississippi Community College finished
with a team score of 318.
Former Lamar star Lance Strickland won medalist honors for
MCC by shooting a 65, while Grant Renegar followed with a final round of 72.
Camden Backel finished the tournament with a 73, Colby Evans checked in with a
75, and Heath Newsom shot an 80. Playing as individuals, Clayton Gray shot 74
and Owen Patterson shot 83 to round out the scoring for the Eagles.
The third ranked Eagles will return to the course on April
11-12 by hosting the annual Jim Redgate Tournament at Briarwood Country Club
which will also mark the final MACJC event before the annual State Tournament
next weekend in Senatobia, MS.
