MCC Tennis Sweeps Past Faulkner State

The Meridian Community College men’s tennis team extended their record to 17-2 on the season with a 7-2 win over Faulkner on Tuesday at Bay Minette, AL.  In men’s doubles, the MCC #1 doubles Jason Pimenta/Breno Goncalves defeated Aaron Rose/Keegan Lowery 8-4. At two doubles, Samuel Butler/Walt Harrington defeated Andri Li/Bryan Cochran 8-4. MCC’s three team of John Taylor Champion/Noah James fell to Robert Talmage/Ross Kimble 8-2.  In singles, Pimenta won 0, 2 over Rose.  Lowery lost to MCC’s Goncalves 4, 2. 

Meridian’s only loss in singles came at number 3 singles as Andri Li/Faulkner defeated Noah James/Meridian 6-4, 7-5.  Samuel Butler won his match at number four singles 2, 1.  At five singles, Will Irvin cruised through a first set 6-2 but had to come back from down 5-2 to take the second set 7-5.  Walt Harrington won at six singles in a third- tiebreak 6-2, 4-6, 10-8 against Garrett Aldridge. 

Meridian’s women increased their record to 16-2 with an 8-1 team score over Faulkner State. Meridian swept the doubles with Gibson/Zachry taking the win at number one doubles 8-4.  At two doubles, Jordyn Hull/Alden Hartley cruised to an 8-1 win. The three team of Jami Daugherty/Taylor Miller won 8-4. In singles MCC won all courts but number three. Hayden Hill, who moved up a position due to an injury by Kyra Holway, fell to Rebekan Porche 2-6, 6-4. 10-6.  Meridian’s one singles player, Paige Gibson won 0, 1. Shelby Zachry won at two 0, 3. At four singles, Jordyn Hull won 4, 3.  Taylor Miller, playing five singles, took an easy 1, 1 victory. Brittany Allen took the win at six 1, 2. 
Meridian’s men will host Marion Military on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at Northeast Tennis Center.  On Friday, MCC plays host to Northwest MS CC at 11:00 a.m. followed by a match against Northeast CC at 2:00 p.m. On Saturday, the MCC women host Snead State at 2:00 p.m. at Northeast Tennis Center. The final regular season match of 2016 will be April 16 at Northeast Tennis Center when MCC plays host to Jones County Junior College beginning at 11:00 a.m.
