MCC Baseball Splits Home Set With EMCC

The Meridian Community College Eagles returned to the
diamond on Tuesday at Scaggs Field by hosting a conference doubleheader with
East Mississippi Community College. The Eagles battled back from a four-run
deficit in Game One to take a dramatic 7-6 victory over the Lions, but MCC
would fall at the hands of EMCC in the nightcap by a final count of 5-0.
MCC moved its overall record to 25-5 and 10-4 in conference
action with the split, while EMCC moved to 10-18 overall and 6-6 in conference
play. MCC will return to action on Saturday to open a four-game conference road
trip at Pearl River Community College, while EMCC will play host to East
Central Community College on Saturday. The two conference doubleheaders for
each team are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
MCC scored five runs in the final three innings of Game One
to take a 7-6 comeback win over the Lions. Luke Craig delivered the big blow in
the bottom of the ninth inning on an RBI single that propelled the Eagles to
the one-run win. Matt Berler led MCC at the plate in Game One with three hits
and two RBI’s, while Dalton Smith added a pair of singles. Nate Romans added a
single and a two runs scored, while former West Lauderdale star Daniel Hill had
an RBI single.
Mike Farnell led the Lions at the plate in Game One with two
hits and a pair of RBI’s, while Whitt Davis drove in two runs on two base hits.
Alex Knight also picked up an RBI single in the loss for EMCC and Taylor
Stafford checked in with a triple in the losing effort.
Freshman Spencer Price picked up the pitching win out the
bullpen for Meridian by working a scoreless ninth inning and Ryder Davis
suffered the loss for the Lions out of the bullpen.
EMCC got a solid pitching performance from Jacques Pucheu to
give the visitors a 5-0 victory over MCC in Game Two. Pucheu pitched a complete
game for the Lions and collected six strikeouts. Hunter Mullis suffered the
loss in Game Two for the Eagles on the mound by working 4 1/3 innings and
surrendering four earned runs, to go along with six strikeouts.
EMCC managed five total hits in Game Two and Taylor Stafford
led the charge with a solo homer in the win, while Emil Ellis added an RBI
single. Mike Farnell also picked up an RBI single in the win for the Lions and
Whitt Davis collected one single in the winning effort.
MCC only managed three hits in the loss and Kyle Bayles led
the way at the plate with two singles, while Daniel Hill picked up the final
hit for MCC on a single in the losing effort.
