MCC Tennis Falls At Snead State

The Meridian Community College women's tennis team
suffered its first loss of the season (2-7) over the weekend against Snead
State CC from Boaz, AL in an away match. Meridian's only wins came at number
three doubles, Caroline Terry and Taylor White won
8-3. In other doubles action, Mallory Davis and Jennifer Smith lost 8-5,
and Molly Davis/Madison Gillette lost 8-1.
Mallory Davis pulled out a tight match against an opponent who had beaten her in the fall. She won in three sets 5-7, 7-5, 10-8. Meridian's number two singles player, Jenni Smith kept her match close but lost 3, 4. At three singles, Madison Gillette lost in straight sets 6-2, 6-0; at number four singles, freshman Caroline Terry lost 6-3, 6-1. At number five singles, Molly Davis lost 6-2, 6-1, while the number six player, Taylor White, lost 7-6(5), 6-1.
The teams hit the road this week for matches Monday at Falkner State and Tuesday at Holmes. MCC will return home for a match with Northeast Community College at the Northeast Tennis Center at 1:00 p.m. Thursday. The Eagle will travel Friday to Marion Military Institute to finish out the week. The women are now 3-1 for the season and the men are 1-2.
