MCC Baseball Rolls Past Coahoma

The Meridian Community College Eagles returned home Saturday
afternoon and really flexed its muscles against Coahoma Community College. The
Eagles used a pair of solid pitching performances and great offense to score a
pair of rule-rule victories (11-1, 10-0) over the Tigers at Scaggs Field.
MCC improved to 7-3 overall for the 2014 season and have now
won seven of its last eight games. The Eagles will return to action Sunday
afternoon in a doubleheader against Jones County Junior College at Scaggs Field
that is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.

The Eagles used 13 hits as a team and a great start on the
mound by Dustin Smith to roll to the run-rule victory in the opening game of
the doubleheader. Smith (2-1) picked five innings and allowed one earned run,
while striking out six.
Sophomore Ben Gann led the charge for MCC with three hits,
including a three-run double. Paul Angel had a game-high four hits in the
victory, while freshman Dalton Thomas had a pair of hits and one RBI.
Michael Druhan had an RBI double in the victory, while
Brooks Balisterri and Garrett Larosa each collected RBI base hits in the win
for Meridian.

Former Clarkdale star Jonathan Porter picked up his first
collegiate pitching to help guide the Eagles to sweep in Game Two. Porter (1-1)
worked six scoreless innings and allowed only one hit, to go along with four
strikeouts.
Sophomore catcher Kevin Hall led the Eagles at the plate
with four runs drive in on a pair of base hits. Angel collected a pair of hits
and drove in a pair of runs, while Thomas added a pair of RBI’s on two base
hits.
The Eagles finished the second game of the twin bill with
seven hits as a team.
