MCC Golf Ranked According to GolfStat

From School Reports

The Meridian Community College golf team can add another accomplishment to its already impressive list of achievements for 2014. The Eagles have been ranked by Golfstat.com  as one of the top 20 teams in the country according to its most recent poll that was released last week. The MCC golf program has consistently been ranked among the best golf programs in the nation over the past 10 years and is arguably the best among all of the junior college programs in the state of Mississippi.

MCC is currently ranked number 16 in the nation according to Golfstat.com among junior college teams.

The Eagles have already gotten off to a great start during its spring season with a tournament victory in the MACJC Event #1 which was held two weeks ago in Gulfport, MS at Great Southern Golf Course.

The Eagles shot 294 for both rounds of the tournament to win by 7 shots over Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College and 22 over Co-Lin Community College.

Meridian native Nathan Kirkland won the individual title shooting one under for the tournament (70, 71). This was Nathan's first collegiate win for the Eagles. Two other Eagles placed on the all-tournament team. Ty Medling placed fourth by shooting a 3 over 145 (69, 76) and Connor Cavin placed fifth with a 148 (77, 71). Austin Terrell recorded the second top ten of his collegiate career by placing 9th with a twelve over 154 (78, 76). Dallas Shepard rounded out the team by finishing 31st (78, 82).

The Eagles return to the course by making a trip to Eagle Ridge Golf Course in Raymond, MS on February 22-23.
