MCC Basketball Splits Road Set At MGCCC

The Meridian Community College Lady Eagles rebounded from
its recent slump by taking a key 83-67 victory over Mississippi Gulf Coast on
the road Monday evening. The Lady Eagles improved to 17-5 overall and 9-4 in
MACJC South Division play. MCC remains in a three-way tie for second place in
the division race with one game remaining in the regular season. Pearl River
Community College has already clinched the top spot in the South Division after
defeating Meridian last Thursday evening. MCC, Jones, and Southwest will enter
the final game of play in a three-way tie for second place with the MACJC State
Tournament on the schedule for next week.
The Lady Eagles will host Southwest Thursday night, while
Jones will travel to East Central for its final regular season home game. MCC
will take to the floor at 5:30 p.m. for the homecoming game with the Lady
Bears.
Kristin Sampson continued to lead the charge for the Lady
Eagles Monday night by scoring 32 points, while sophomore Victoria Stewart
poured in 19 points in the road victory over Mississippi Gulf Coast.
The MCC men were unable to complete the sweep as the Eagles
fell by a final count of 83-68. The Eagles are now 5-17 overall for the season
and 4-9 in MACJC South Division play. The Eagles will close out the
regular season at home Thursday night against Southwest beginning at 7:30 p.m.
