MCC Tennis Opens 2014 Season

The Meridian Community College men’s and women’s tennis teams kicked off the spring season this past Saturday.  MCC hosted Marion Military Institute in the men’s match and Hinds Community College in the women’s matches.

In men’s play the number one doubles duo of Kevin Millet and Chris Mallette lost in a third set-tiebreaker to Romar Hernandez/Jake McDonough 3-6, 6-4, 1-10.  At number two doubles, Reed Wade and TJ Carter lost to MMI’s Kaizer DeLeon/Javier DeClaire 6-1, 6-1 and at number three doubles, Chase Kasper and Christian Jackson defeated Monty Birchmeier/Brad Kulac 6-0, 6-0.  In single’s action, Kevin Millet lost to Kaizer DeLeon 6-3, 6-1.  Romar Hernandez from MMI defeated Meridian’s Chris Mallette 6-1, 6-0.  Reed Wade of MCC lost to Jake McDonough 6-0, 6-3.  Javier de Claire defeated Meridian’s TJ Carter at number four singles by a score of 6-0, 6-2.  Christian Jackson, at five singles, fought off MMI’s Monty Birchmaier in a third-set breaker:  6-2, 2-6, 10-8.  D’Quante Evans won  his singles match as well by defeating MMI’s Brad Kulac 6-1, 6-0.

Meridian women defeated Hinds by a score of 9-0.  Meridian’s one doubles, Mallory Davis/Jennifer Smith defeated Brittany DeCamp/Kelly Clarkson 6-3, 7-5; the two doubles team Madison Gillette/Molly Davis defeated Reagan Chisolm/Jenneast Lofton 6-2, 6-4.  The three doubles team, Caroline Terry/Taylor White defeated Jessica Parker/Octavia Pendleton 6-2, 7-5.  Meridian swept the singles without losing a  set.  Mallory Davis defeated DeCamp 6-1, 6-0.  Terry defeated Clarkson 6-3, 6-0; Smith took an easy win at three singles 6-2, 6-0.  Meridian’s Gillette defeated Chisolm 1, 1 while Molly Davis won 2, 2.  At number six singles, Taylor White defeated Cayla Fox 6-2. 6-3. 

Meridian’s only match for this week was rescheduled due to the weather conditions, but MCC will return in a home match Monday, Feb. 17 at 2:00 at Northeast Tennis Center against Faulkner State.
