MCC Tennis Sweeps Past Hinds

The Meridian Community College men’s tennis team improved their 2014 record to 1-2 as they defeated Hinds Community College on Tuesday, 9-0.  In men’s doubles, the number one team of Kevin Millet/Chris Mallette defeated Hinds’ DeVonte Thomas/Julian Johnson 8-4; the number two doubles team of Cody Gallenbeck/Judson Watson won 8-5, and at three doubles, MCC’s Reed Wade/TJ Carter defeated Jonathan Bethea/Peter Bethea 8-1.  In single’s action, Meridian took all nine courts:  #1 singles player Millet defeated Thomas 6-4, 6-2; Chris Mallette won at #2 6-4, 6-0, while the #3 singles player, Will Rogers, breezed to an easy win 6-1, 6-1.  Judson Watson also took an easy win over Jonathan Bethea 6-2, 6-1; Reed Wade won at #5 singles by a score of 6-0, 6-2, while the #6 singles player, Cody Gallenbeck won 6-0, 6-1. 

In women’s action, Meridian won the match 8-1.  Meridian took all courts except number six singles, which was the last match of the day.  Taylor White lost to Reagan Chisolm in a hard-fought match.  At one doubles, MCC won 8-1, at two the score was MCC 8-2, and at three the score was 8-6 after Meridian had a commanding 6-1 lead.  At one singles, MCC won 6-2, 6-2, #2 singles, Jenni Smith won 6-2, 6-2, at three Madison Gillette, who has been playing well in the first matches, won 6-0, 6-2, at four Caroline Terry won 6-1, 6-0.  Meridian’s number five breezed to a 6-1, 6-1.  The women are now 3-0 on the season. 

The Meridian  women will travel to Snead State in Boaz, AL for a match on Friday. 

Both teams will return to action Thursday in a home match against Mississippi Gulf Coast at the Northeast Tennis Center beginning at 1:00 p.m.
