MCC Baseball Sweeps Wallace-Selma
From School Reports
The Meridian Community College baseball squad traveled to
Wallace-Selma Wednesday evening and came back with a doubleheader sweep over
the Patriots.
MCC defeated Wallace-Selma in the opening game by a final
count of 10-4 and came away with the sweep in the second game 1-0.
The Eagles improved to 5-3 overall with the sweep and
have now won five of its last six games after starting the season 0-2.
MCC will open a four-game home stand this weekend at
Scaggs Field. The Eagles will tangle with Coahoma Community College in a doubleheader
Saturday at 1 p.m. and will battle Jones County Junior College in a twin bill
set for Sunday at 1 p.m.

The Eagles used some power at the plate and solid
pitching to come away with the victory in the opening game of the doubleheader
over Wallace-Selma.
Freshman Chandler Blakeney picked up his first collegiate
victory on the mound and allowed only one hit in 2 2/3 innings of work. Garrett
Larosa led the offense with three hits, including a home run and three runs
batted in for the green and white.
Paul Angel ended the game with a pair of hits and two
runs scored, while freshman Dalton Thomas collected a pair of hits for
Meridian.

Wallace-Selma 0
Sophomore Ben Gann tossed five scoreless innings and
collected four strikeouts to grab his first pitching win of his MCC career in
Game Two. Gann tossed 4 2/3 innings of perfect baseball before surrendering his
first hit of the game.
Sophomore Kellon Hibbard picked up his first save of the
season by pitching the final two innings in relief.
Dalton Thomas led the way with a pair of hits, including
a solo home run. Baylor Obert also collected a double at the plate in the
victory for MCC.
