MCC Softball Closes Out 2014 Rush Invitational Tournament

The Meridian Community College softball team closed out the
2014 Rush Invitational Tournament by dropping its final games of the tournament
at the hands of Bishop State by a final score of 4-2 and 7-6. The Lady Eagles
completed the tournament with an 0-3 record after falling to Mississippi Gulf
Coast Friday afternoon by a final count of 9-2. The Lady Eagles dropped its
overall record to 0-5 after the completion of the Rush Invitational Tournament.
Bishop State scored all four of its runs in the fourth inning
and was able to hold off the Lady Eagles in the late stages of Game One. MCC
scored one run each in the third and fifth inning of the contest. MCC was led
at the plate by Casey Bolton and Shelby Peavy with two hits a apiece in Game
One.
Kelsey Rogers suffered the pitching loss on the mound in the
opening game for the Lady Eagles.
Bishop State held off a late seventh inning rally by the
Lady Eagles to hold on for the 7-6 win in Game Two. MCC scored a pair of runs
in the bottom of the seventh inning, but were unable to scratch another run to
complete the comeback victory. Cheyenne Barefoot and Paige Bowser each had
three hits in the setback for the Lady Eagles, while Emily Blackwell suffered
the pitching loss on the mound.
MCC will return to action Tuesday afternoon with a home
doubleheader against East Mississippi Community College. The first pitch of the
twin bill is set for 1 p.m. at Tommy McDonald Field.
