MCC Golf Completes First Round at MACJC State Tournament

The Meridian Community College golf team opened play on
Saturday in the 2016 MACJC State Tournament at Shiloh Ridge Golf Course in
Corinth, MS. The Eagles are currently sitting in third place after the opening
round of the tournament with a team score of 300 which is 10 strokes back of
Mississippi Gulf Coast who leads the field. Co-Lin Community College sits in
second place six strokes ahead of the Eagles with a team score of 294.
Lance Strickland and Grant Renegar both shot a 75 which were
the lowest rounds of the day on Saturday for MCC which was good enough to give
the pair a tie in 10th place among the field. Colby Evans and Clayton Gray each
shot a 76 to put both players in a tie for 14th, while Camden Backel fired an
opening round score of 78 to sit in a tie for 25th.
Grant Motter of Mississippi Gulf Coast currently leads after
one round of the tournament after firing a 68 and Joseph Dendy of Co-Lin sits
in second place overall after a first round of 70. The final round the 2016
MACJC State Tournament will begin on Sunday at 8:30 a.m. with a modified
shotgun start. Golfers will be grouped on Holes 1 and 10 while teeing off in
sets of four throughout the morning with the individual winner and state
champion being announced early Sunday afternoon.
