From School Reports
The Meridian Community College tennis teams traveled to
Falkner State Monday and came away with a split for the day. The MCC
women found themselves back in the win column after a loss to Snead State last
week. Meridian’s girls pulled out a 5-4 victory. In doubles action,
Meridian won all three matches. Davis/Smith took the win at number one by
a score of 8-1. The two doubles of Davis/Gillette cruised to an 8-3 win,
and at number three doubles, White/Terry won easily 8-2. Singles
competition was much closer. MCC’s Mallory Davis lost to Lizzie Schmidt
6-0, 6-1. At no. 2, Jennis Smith lost in a third set tiebreaker to Parris
Cruse 3-6, 6-4, 10-8. MCC’s three singles, Madison Gillette fell in two
sets to Mackenzie Tobin 6-4, 7-5. Caroline Terry, who is really playing well
right now, defeated Danielle Clark 6-0, 4-6, 10-3. Molly Davis, MCC, who
had a marathon match lost in three sets to Meredith Gwin, 1-6, 7-6(8),
10-5. One rally during this match saw a total of 148 exchanges. The
match lasted 2 ½ hours. Taylor White, MCC, won her match 6-2, 6-3.

doubles, Millet/Mallette lost 8-2. Cody Gallenbeck/Will Rogers lost
8-3. Meridian’s duo of TJCarter/Reed Wade won at number three doubles by
a score of 8-4. In singles, Meridian’s men just could not pull off an
upset. Kevin Millet, MCC, lost to Dallas Teague of Falkner 6-0,
6-1. Chris Mallette lost in a third set tiebreak in what was perhaps the match
of the day by a score of 6-4, 7-5, 10-8. The three doubles player
in a questionable lineup for the other team won in easy sets 6-1, 6-2. At
number four MCC;s Judson Watson defeated Tyler Watts 7-5, 1-6, 10-4. At
