MCC Baseball Drops Series Finale To BRCC
From School Reports
The Meridian Community College Eagles entered play Sunday
afternoon looking to extend its seven-game winning streak, but Baton Rouge
Community College had other ideas. The Bears rebounded to take the final game
of its three-game set with MCC by a final score of 2-1 at Scaggs Field Sunday
afternoon.
Baton Rouge improved to 13-21 overall for the season and 1-2
in Miss-Lou Conference play, while MCC fell to 16-13 overall and 2-1 in league
play.
MCC took a brief 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning
on an RBI single by Ben Gann, but the Bears bounced back with a run of its own
in the top of the fourth inning to tie the game at 1-1. Zach Zimmer delivered
the big blow for the Bears with a two-out single to left field to tie the game.
Zimmer put the Bears up for good in the sixth inning on a
squeeze bunt that scored Darren Bueche from third base to give BRCC the 2-1
lead. The one-run lead would be more than enough for Baton Rouge starting
pitcher Mason Liles as he pitched a complete game. Liles allowed seven hits,
one unearned run, one walk, and collected a pair of strikeouts.
Jonathan Porter was handed the loss on the mound out of the
bullpen for MCC by working three innings and allowing one earned run. Jake
Smith drew the start for the Eagles and worked five innings and secured five
strikeouts. Kellon Hibbard also worked a scoreless ninth out of the bullpen as
well for the Eagles.
Brooks Balisterri and Kevin Hall led MCC at the plate with
two hits apiece, while Scott Votaw and Grant Hill each added a single in the
setback for Meridian.
MCC will return to action Tuesday afternoon at Scaggs Field
against Marion Military Institute beginning at 3 p.m.
