From School Reports

The Meridian Community College Eagles entered Miss-Lou Conference play this weekend riding high on a five-game winning streak and things continued to roll in the right direction for the green and white. MCC secured a doubleheader sweep (10-4, 4-2) over Baton Rouge Community College to push its current winning streak to seven games. The Eagles improved to 16-12 overall with the sweep and 2-0 in conference play, while BRCC is now 12-21 overall and 0-2 in league play.

The two teams will meet for the final game of its series Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.

MCC banged out 15 hits in the opening game of the twin bill to win by a final score of 10-4. All nine hitters in the MCC lineup had at least one hit in the six-run victory. Brooks Balisterri led the way with a game-high three hits, but Game One ultimately belonged to the Meridian right fielder. Michael Druhan had a career day at the plate in the 10-4 victory with a pair of home runs and four RBI’s. Druhan connected on a three-run home run in the second inning and later added a solo home run in the fourth inning. Sophomore catcher Kevin Hall added a solo home run in the game, while Scott Votaw had a two-run single.

Bryant Johnston picked up the pitching win in relief by working 4 1/3 innings and collecting seven strikeouts.

The second game of the doubleheader ended in dramatic fashion as MCC scored four runs in the final two innings to walk away with a 4-2 victory over Baton Rouge. The Eagles entered the bottom of the sixth trailing BRCC 2-0 and the home team was able to scratch two runs to tie the game at 2-2. The first run crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly by Kevin Hall and Mac Seibert tied the game with two outs on a single to right field.

MCC would finish the game off in the bottom of the seventh inning thanks to a walk-off home run by Scott Votaw. Dalton Thomas reached first base on a two-out single and Votaw delivered the long homer to left field to give MCC the comeback victory.

MCC finished Game Two with seven hits and Baton Rouge had five hits in the loss.

Kellon Hibbard picked up the pitching win out of the bullpen for MCC by working a scoreless seventh inning. The star of the day on the mound was Josh Curtis who pitched 5 2/3 innings out of the bullpen. Curtis allowed no runs, one hit, one walk, and collected six strikeouts in his superb performance.
