Three MCC Players To Highlight All-Star Event

From School Reports

The Meridian Community College basketball program announced Monday afternoon that three of its players have been named members of the South Team that will take part in the MACJC All-Star Basketball games that will be played April 11 at East Central Community College.

The MCC women had two players named members of the South squad, while the MCC men had one player from its 2013-2014 squad named a part of the South team  in the men’s contest. Kristin Sampson and Miaya Crowder were selected as members of the South squad, while Corey Brister was selected as a part of the men’s South team.

Sampson, a former Jackson Provine star, led the Lady Eagles in most offensive categories during the 2013-2014 season. Sampson finished the season by leading the team in scoring average with 19 points per game and also led the team in steals with three steals a contest. Crowder was a huge force inside for the Lady Eagles this season by averaging 16 points a contest and 11 rebounds a game.

The MCC women finished the season by being eliminated in the Region 23 Tournament in Clinton, MS two weeks ago by Baton Rouge Community College by a final score of 80-79. Baton Rouge would later go on to win the Region 23 Tournament and is currently competing in the NJCAA National Tournament in Salina, KS. The Lady Eagles finished the season with an overall record of 19-7.

Brister was one of the big offensive threats for the MCC Eagles during 2013-2014 and will look to showcase his talents in the All-Star Game. Brister led the Eagles in scoring with 12 points per game as MCC finished the season with a 6-16 overall record.

The 2014 MACJC All-Star event will be hosted by East Central Community College on April 11 beginning with the women’s game at 5 p.m. and the men’s contest at 7 p.m. The South teams will be coached by the staff at Southwest Mississippi Community College and the North will be led by the coaching staff at Northwest Mississippi Community College.
