MCC Baseball Falls To SE Iowa

The Meridian Community College Eagles returned to action
Thursday night to open a short two-game series at Scaggs Field with
Southeastern Iowa Community College and things turned very sour for the green
and white in the late innings. The visiting Blackhawks were able to plate a
pair of runs in the top of the ninth inning to escape with a 7-6 comeback
victory over MCC.
The Eagles dropped its overall record to 9-12 with the
setback, while Southeastern Iowa improved to 11-5.
MCC was led at the plate by Ben Gann who finished the game
with a pair of doubles and Scott Votaw added an RBI double in the one-run loss
for the Eagles. Kevin Hall, Paul Angel, Michael Druhan, and Mac Seibert each
added a base hit in the game for the Eagles. The Eagles finished the game by
leaving 14 runners on base, while the Southeastern Iowa pitching staff
surrendered 12 walks in the contest.
Ben Gann suffered the loss on the mound for the Eagles in
relief by surrendering two unearned runs in the final frame. Freshman Dustin
Smith drew the start on the hill for MCC and worked four innings and allowed
one earned run. Freshman Bryant Johnston worked 3 2/3 innings out of the
bullpen as well for the Eagles and collected a pair of strikeouts.
MCC will close out its current five-game home stand Friday
afternoon in a single game against Southeastern Iowa beginning at 1 p.m.
