MCC Baseball Falls To SE Iowa

From School Reports

The Meridian Community College Eagles returned to action Thursday night to open a short two-game series at Scaggs Field with Southeastern Iowa Community College and things turned very sour for the green and white in the late innings. The visiting Blackhawks were able to plate a pair of runs in the top of the ninth inning to escape with a 7-6 comeback victory over MCC.

The Eagles dropped its overall record to 9-12 with the setback, while Southeastern Iowa improved to 11-5.

MCC was led at the plate by Ben Gann who finished the game with a pair of doubles and Scott Votaw added an RBI double in the one-run loss for the Eagles. Kevin Hall, Paul Angel, Michael Druhan, and Mac Seibert each added a base hit in the game for the Eagles. The Eagles finished the game by leaving 14 runners on base, while the Southeastern Iowa pitching staff surrendered 12 walks in the contest.

Ben Gann suffered the loss on the mound for the Eagles in relief by surrendering two unearned runs in the final frame. Freshman Dustin Smith drew the start on the hill for MCC and worked four innings and allowed one earned run. Freshman Bryant Johnston worked 3 2/3 innings out of the bullpen as well for the Eagles and collected a pair of strikeouts.

MCC will close out its current five-game home stand Friday afternoon in a single game against Southeastern Iowa beginning at 1 p.m.
