Sampson Earns Player of the Week Honor

The Meridian Community College basketball team has had a
marvelous run during the 2013-2014 season and one of its players has been
awarded for her superb play on the court. MCC guard Kristin Sampson was
selected as the MACJC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week as voted on by the
Sports Information Directors of the MACJC Tuesday afternoon.
Sampson is a native of Jackson, MS and came to Meridian
Community College after having a successful high school career at Provine.
Sampson has been one of the driving forces behind the success of the women’s
basketball team this season at MCC.
Sampson, a sophomore guard, led the Lady Eagles to a pair of
victories in the final week of the regular season to help her squad clinch a
spot in the MACJC State Tournament. Sampson had a season-high 32 points in an
83-67 road victory over Mississippi Gulf Coast. Sampson also had four assists
and a pair of steals in the victory over the Lady Bulldogs. Sampson finished
the week by scoring 11 points and collecting five steals in a 79-68 win over
Southwest Mississippi. Sampson is currently averaging 20 points per game for
the Lady Eagles and four assists a contest.
MCC is currently competing in the MACJC State Tournament and
Sampson scored 24 points in an 85-77 overtime victory over Mississippi Delta in
the opening round of the tournament. The Lady Eagles will play Southwest
Mississippi in the semi-final round of the tournament Wednesday afternoon at 1
p.m.
