MCC soccer set for Rush Invitational this weekend

MERIDIAN- The Meridian Community College soccer teams return to action this weekend when they host the Rush Invitational on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the C.D. Smith Soccer Field.

The seven-team field also includes Concordia, Emory, Gordon, Hinds, Itawamba, and Polk. The Lady Eagles will face Polk at 1 p.m. on Friday to start this year’s invitational, while the Eagles will take on Gordon at 7 p.m. on Friday for the nightcap on day one. Saturday the Lady Eagles will take on Gordon at 1 p.m. and then on Sunday they will face Emory at noon, while the Eagles take on Itawamba at 2 p.m. in the final contest of the weekend.

“This is by far the most talented group of colleges participating this weekend. We have teams from Florida, Georgia and a few ranked top five in the nation and we also look forward to having a large core of Division I Universities on campus scouting these players,” said MCC head soccer coach Alex George.

“Mississippi State specifically has their eye on Lady Eagle’s sophomore Christina Murray. Murray is currently at the top on the national leader board in goals scored and assist. Murray has been an astounding asset to the program since arriving from Jamaica in 2008 and will continue to lead the team toward their goal of a national playoff birth.”

The other games are Hinds vs. Concordia (3 p.m. Friday), Gordon vs. Hinds (5 p.m. Friday), Hinds vs. Polk (11 a.m. Saturday), Gordon vs. Hinds (3 p.m. Saturday), Concordia vs. Itawamba (5 p.m. Saturday), Emory vs. Itawamba (7 p.m. Saturday), and Polk vs. Itawamba (10 a.m. Sunday).
