MCC places third, Garon wins medalist
Eagles set school record with 13-under par, 275
(CULLMAN, AL.) - The Meridian Community College golf team shot a blistering 13-under par team score of 275 in the final round of the Wallace State Fall Invitational Tuesday at the Cullman Golf Course.
The 13-under par team total set a new school record for lowest team score.
"We had a fun day, we've got a good team that can compete anywhere, any day," said MCC coach Sean Covich.
MCC was led by freshman Brandt Garon who won the medalist title with an 11-under par total shooting 68-71-66. The 66 (-6) tied the lowest individual performance in school history.
Sophomore Garrett Westbrook shot a 2-under total with 73-73-68. Sophomores Cory Williamson (73-77-70), Nick Hawkes (77-72-72) and Tanner Sparks (74-77-71) rounded out the team scoring.
Central Alabama won with a 849 total, host-Wallace State claimed runner-up at 853 while MCC was third with 856 (288-293-275). CACC (876) came in fourth, Brevard (887) fifth and Faulkner State (888) in sixth. NE Miss (901) came in seventh, Wallace State's B team had a 922 for eighth place and East Central (936) rounded out at ninth.
MCC will return to action on September 28-29 when they host the Jim Redgate Invitational at Briarwood Country Club.
