Freshman, Garon, leads MCC on Day One

CULLMAN, Ala. – Freshman Brandt Garon led the Meridian Community College golf team with two under par rounds- 4-under 68 in round one, which included seven birdies, and 1-under 71 in round two at the Wallace State Fall Invitational, at Cullman Golf Course.
The Baton Rouge native started his first career collegiate round with a birdie on No. 1. After one bogey, he birdied the last four holes on the front side to go 4-under.
"Brandt had two great rounds to start his college career," head coach Sean Covich said.
In round one MCC shot a team score of 288, even par. Garon led the way with a 68 (-4), Garrett Westbrook and Cory Williamson both shot 73 (+1), Tanner Sparks shot 74 (+2), while Nick Hawkes closed out round one scoring with a 77 (+5).
In round two MCC shot a team score of 293, 5-over. Once again Garon led the way with a 71 (-1). Hawkes shot 72 (E), Westbrook had a 73 (+1) while Sparks and Williamson both had 77 (+5).
Thru 36 holes MCC is in third place. Central Alabama leads with a 568 (281-287) while host-Wallace State is in second with a 569 (286-283). MCC is in third with a 581 (288-293) while CACC is in fourth at 583 (288-295). Faulkner State rounds out the top five 586, Brevard is in sixth with 588, NE Mississippi is seventh at 599, Wallace State’s B team in eighth at 614 and East Central (MS) rounds out all the teams in ninth place at 628.
The final round stats tomorrow at 8 AM.
