MCC Baseball Falls to ICC

The Meridian Community College baseball team returned to
action on Sunday afternoon with a pair of conference games against 10th
ranked Itawamba Community College at Scaggs Field. The Eagles didn’t have any
answers on Sunday and dropped a pair games to the visiting Indians by final
scores of 17-2 and 5-2. MCC dropped its overall record to 13-9 and 2-4 in
conference action. MCC will return to the diamond on Tuesday with a road trip
to Hinds Community College for another pair of conference games beginning at 3
p.m. MCC will play its next home games on April 1 at Scaggs Field against
Southwest Mississippi Community College at 2 p.m.
The day started on a rough note for the Eagles by falling in
Game One to the Indians by a final score of 17-2 in nine innings. Itawamba
finished the opening game on Sunday with 19 total hits and MCC only managed
three hits. Luke Craig led the way at the plate in Game One with an RBI single
and former Southeast Lauderdale star Alec Marlow drove in the only other run
for the Eagles on a groundout. Freshman Hunter Stanley suffered the pitching
loss in Game One by working 3 1/3 innings and allowing six earned runs.
MCC fought hard in Game Two on Sunday against ICC, but lost
by a final score of 5-2. Itawamba finished the second game of the doubleheader
with seven hits and MCC ended the game with five total hits. Milton Smith led
MCC at the plate with a pair of singles and an RBI, while Chase Coker drove in
one run on a single. Luke Craig and JD Gann also finished the second game with
one single apiece for the Eagles. Freshman Briar Russell took the pitching loss
in Game Two for the Eagles by working 3 2/3 innings and allowing only one
earned run.
