MCC Baseball Sweeps Conference Doubleheader at Coahoma

The Meridian Community College baseball returned to the
field Wednesday afternoon by taking a long road trip to north Mississippi to
battle Coahoma Community College in a crucial conference doubleheader. The
Eagles brought plenty of offense with them on the road by sweeping past Coahoma
by final scores of 20-7 and 5-2.
MCC improved to 13-7 overall for the season and 2-2 in
MACJC play. The Eagles will return to the diamond this Sunday with a
conference doubleheader at Scaggs Field against 10th ranked Itawamba Community
College. The first pitch of the twin bill is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
MCC used several big innings at the plate in Game One to
defeat the Tigers by a final score of 20-7. MCC took a 6-1 lead in the second
inning and never looked back in taking the Game One win. Chase Coker finished
the game with a grand slam homer, while Blake Fields knocked in a pair of runs
on a single and double. Milton Smith and CJ Hughes each had an RBI double,
while Garrett Busby had a pair of doubles and one RBI. JD Gann picked up an RBI
on a single and Zack Carter also added a pair of RBIs in the Game One victory.
Caleb Yarbrough picked up the pitching victory in Game
One by working 7 2/3 innings and collecting six strikeouts.
MCC finished off the sweep of Coahoma in Game Two by a
final score of 5-2. JD Gann led the way at the plate in Game Two with an RBI
double, while Cade Ewing added and RBI double in the three-run victory over the
Tigers.
