MCC Softball Splits Road Set at ICC

The Meridian Community College softball team returned to
action on Friday afternoon with a conference road doubleheader at 11th ranked
Itawamba Community College. The Lady Eagles fought extremely hard in the
conference showdown by falling in Game One by a final of 1-0 and bouncing back
in Game Two to upset the Lady Indians by a final of 5-4.
MCC is now 10-5 overall for the season and have gotten
off to a great start in conference play with a 5-1 record. The Lady Eagles have
now won five out of its last six games and all of those wins have been in
conference play. MCC will return to action this Sunday afternoon by playing
host to top ranked Jones County Junior College at Tommy McDonald Field. The
conference doubleheader between the two schools will begin at 2 p.m.
MCC got the day started on Friday against Itawamba by
falling in Game One by a final of 1-0. Freshman pitcher Tiana Boutte took the
tough loss on the mound in Game One for the Lady Eagles by working six innings
and allowing one run (unearned), to go along with a pair of strikeouts.
MCC finished Game One with seven total hits, while the
Lady Indians could only manage three hits against Boutte. The only run of Game
One came on an error by MCC in the first inning that would prove to be the
difference in the ICC victory.
Brianna Duquette led MCC at the plate with a pair of
singles in Game One. Mycahla Howard, Keelee Ladnier, Ivey Brewer, Jayla
Poindexter, and Kandler Flora each finished with one single apiece in the Game
One loss.
MCC bounced back in grand fashion in Game Two by defeating
the 11th ranked Lady Indians by a final of 5-4. The Lady Eagles scored four
runs in the top of the fifth inning that would prove to be the difference in
the one-run victory.
Mia Johnson had a huge game at the plate in the win for
MCC by collecting four RBIs on a home run and a double. Brianna Duquette, Anna
Lloyd, and Keelee Ladnier each added one single apiece in Game Two. Mycahla
Howard also added an RBI on a sacrifice to round out the offense for the Lady
Eagles.
Tiana Boutte picked up the pitching win in Game Two for
the Lady Eagles by tossing a complete game and notching two strikeouts.
