MCC Tennis Sweeps Road Set at ECCC

The Meridian Community College tennis squads took two wins on the road yesterday against rival East Central Community College.  The men and women are now 8-0 in conference play. 

In the men's match, the double's team of Jason Pimenta/Will Swindoll swept Tom Langelaar/Joseph Jabour 8-1.  At two doubles, Breno Goncalves/Callan Shinall took the win over Will Stewart/John Jiminez 8-5, and at three doubles, Noah James/Nathan Hollis took the win over Will Wooten/Brandon Rogers 8-6.  Hollis was subbing in for John Taylor Champion who was at the MS/USA All-Academic Team Awards ceremony in Jackson.  In single's action, Pimenta defeated Langelaar 0,0.  At two singles, Goncalves, who is battling a knee injury, defeated John Jiminez in a long three-set match 6-3, 4-6, 10-6.  Will Swindoll took the win at three singles over Joseph Jabour 2, 0.  Callan Shinall defeated Will Stewart 3, 1 at four singles; Noah James breezed to the victory at five singles 2, 0.  Will Irvin finished out the sweep for Meridian with a win over Graham Murphree with a 6-2, 6-3 win at six singles.

In women's action, Meridian's doubles team of Shelby Zachry/Jordyn Hull defeated Tatiana Quinonez/Emily Dykeman 8-3.  In two double's action, Rachel Sollie/Taylor Miller won a close match 9-8(7) over Chaney Mills/Andi McCrimmon, and Kyra Holway/Micah Gray took the win at three doubles over Hannah Payne/Samantha McCrimmon 8-1.  In women's singles, Shelby Zachry took three sets to come away the victor against Tatiana Quinonez 6-3, 2-6, 10-3.  At two singles, Jordyn Hull defeated Chaney Mills 3, 1.  Kyra Holway breezed through her match against Samantha McCrimon to win 1, 0. Taylor Miller, who is battling a knee injury, defeated Andi McCrimon 1, 1.  At five singles, Rachel Sollie took a 2, 3 win over An Duong.  At six, Micah Gray defeated Emily Dykeman 1, 3.  

Meridian returns to action Friday on the road against Northwest Community College in a 12:00 noon match.  If the weather permits, MCC will play three home matches over the weekend as both teams host Wallace State on Saturday morning beginning at 8:00 a.m. and follow with matches against Holmes at 2:30 p.m. On Sunday afternoon beginning at 1:00 pm, the men host Gadsden State out of Alabama.
