MCC Track Posts High Finish at USM Invitational

Hattiesburg, MS – MCC was back on the track Saturday as they
made the short drive to Hattiesburg to compete in the Southern Miss
Invitational.
MCC which is currently ranked 15th nationally on
the men’s side and 24th on the women’s side in the country,
posted six top 3 finishes on the day including three wins.
MCC saw victories in the men’s 800 meters, 3000 meter
steeplechase and the women’s 200 meters.
“Anytime you can come in and have three wins and six top
three finishes it’s a good day,” said Head Coach Chip Gayden. “We really
wanted to come in focused and improve on what we have done and I believe we
accomplished that.”
MCC saw Josh Austin post a win in the men’s 800 meters with
a time of 1:52.71 which is good enough to rank him fourth in the NJCAA in the
event currently. In the 3000 meter steeplechase, Tyler Warren posted a
win with a winning time of 8:55.14, which currently ranks first in the
NJCAA. Ashley Henderson posted a win in the women’s 200 meters with a
winning time of 23.95. Henderson’s time currently ranks her third in the
NJCAA in the event.
In other events, MCC saw Cravorkian Carson post a second
place finish in the men’s 100 meters with a time of 10.53. In the 200
meters, the tandem of Dontarian Evans and Devarius Turner finished third and
seventh in the event.
In the fields, MCC posted second and third place finishes in
the discus with Anthony Jones and Hayden Tharpe. Jones posted a mark of
43.71 meters in the event and Tharpe posted a throw of 43.32 meters in the
event.
Next up for MCC will be LSU Alumni Gold in Baton Rouge on
the campus of LSU next Saturday.
