MCC Softball Splits With Bishop State To Open Season

The Meridian Community College softball team opened the 2015
season by traveling to Bishop State Community College for a doubleheader
Wednesday afternoon. The Lady Eagles came away with a doubleheader split (3-1,
9-10) against the Lady Wildcats to begin the 2015 campaign. MCC will return to
action this weekend by traveling to Marianna, FL to take on Chipola Junior
College.
Shleby Peavey led the way with a 3-for-4 day at the plate in
Game One to lead the Lady Eagles to a 3-1 victory. Megan McCullough and Laken
Guelker each added two hits apiece in the Game One win. MCC scored all three of
its runs in the top of the fifth inning to erase the Bishop State lead.
Keoceania Yarbrough, Peavey, and Guelker each had an RBI single in the frame to
lead to the win.
Zoie LaVergne picked up pitching win on the mound in Game
One, while Lyndsey Cannon earned the save in relief.
MCC lost in difficult fashion in Game Two by a final score
of 10-9 behind 16 hits from the offense. Alexis Butler had a tremendous day at
the plate in Game Two by going 5-for-5 and Peavey followed up her Game One
performance by going 3-for-5. Paige Gibson also turned in a great day at the
plate by going 2-for-3, while Montana Holyfield and Cassi Dew each added a pair
of hits.
Megan McCullough and Anna Lewis also added a single apiece
in the Game Two loss. Lyndsey Cannon suffered the pitching loss in Game Two for
the Lady Eagles.
