MCC Baseball Splits Home Set With Marion Military

From School Reports

The Meridian Community College Eagles continued its current six-game home stand to begin the 2015 season on Wednesday at Scaggs Field by taking on Marion Military Institute in a doubleheader. The Eagles closed out action on Wednesday by salvaging a split (3-4, 2-1) against the visiting Tigers. MCC moved its overall record to 2-2 for the season with the split. MCC will return to action Friday afternoon to open the 2015 Rush Invitational Tournament at Scaggs Field against Jefferson College (MO). The doubleheader against the Vikings will begin at 2:30 this Friday afternoon.

MCC was unable to hold to the lead late in Game One and lost by a final score of 4-3. Carson McGregory of Marion Military belted a two-run homer in the top of the sixth inning that would prove to be the difference in the game.

The Eagles managed five hits in the loss, while Marion Military finished the game with three hits. Dalton Thomas led the way at the plate in Game One with a two-run home run and a double. Goose Yates, Jaylon Keys, and Scott Votaw each added a base hit in the loss. Jake Smith had a solid outing on the mound in Game One for MCC by working five innings and collecting seven strikeouts.

MCC rebounded in Game Two with a 2-1 victory behind a great pitching performance from the pitching staff. Freshman Austin Harrison earned his first collegiate victory on the mound by working four innings and collecting a pair of strikeouts. Freshman Colby Shaw also earned the save out of the bullpen for the Eagles by working two scoreless innings and notching four strikeouts.

The Eagles managed four hits in Game Two, while Marion Military had six hits. Michael Druhan picked up an RBI base hit in the victory and former West Lauderdale star Daniel Hill also added a single.
