MCC Baseball Splits Home Set With Marion Military

The Meridian Community College Eagles continued its current
six-game home stand to begin the 2015 season on Wednesday at Scaggs Field by
taking on Marion Military Institute in a doubleheader. The Eagles closed out
action on Wednesday by salvaging a split (3-4, 2-1) against the visiting
Tigers. MCC moved its overall record to 2-2 for the season with the split. MCC
will return to action Friday afternoon to open the 2015 Rush Invitational
Tournament at Scaggs Field against Jefferson College (MO). The doubleheader
against the Vikings will begin at 2:30 this Friday afternoon.
MCC was unable to hold to the lead late in Game One and lost
by a final score of 4-3. Carson McGregory of Marion Military belted a two-run
homer in the top of the sixth inning that would prove to be the difference in
the game.
The Eagles managed five hits in the loss, while Marion
Military finished the game with three hits. Dalton Thomas led the way at the
plate in Game One with a two-run home run and a double. Goose Yates, Jaylon
Keys, and Scott Votaw each added a base hit in the loss. Jake Smith had a solid
outing on the mound in Game One for MCC by working five innings and collecting
seven strikeouts.
MCC rebounded in Game Two with a 2-1 victory behind a great
pitching performance from the pitching staff. Freshman Austin Harrison earned
his first collegiate victory on the mound by working four innings and
collecting a pair of strikeouts. Freshman Colby Shaw also earned the save out
of the bullpen for the Eagles by working two scoreless innings and notching
four strikeouts.
The Eagles managed four hits in Game Two, while Marion
Military had six hits. Michael Druhan picked up an RBI base hit in the victory
and former West Lauderdale star Daniel Hill also added a single.
