MCC Basketball Splits Home Set With Hinds
From School Reports
The Meridian Community College Lady Eagles were looking to
stay in the hunt for a spot in the MACJC State Tournament which is just around
the corner, but sights were set on Hinds Community College on Monday evening at
the Graham Gymnasium. The Lady Eagles opened on a 6-0 run and never looked back
to run away with an 81-66 victory over the visiting Lady Bulldogs. MCC
improved to 14-7 overall with the win and 7-4 inside MACJC South Division play.
The Lady Eagles will now square off with Jones County Junior College this
Thursday night at the Graham Gymnasium.
MCC won its previous meeting against Jones earlier this
season in Ellisville by a final score of 85-79. The game will also play a very
important part in the MACJC South Division standings when the two schools meet
Thursday night. MCC and Jones are both currently 7-4 inside league play and the
winner of Thursday night’s game will take over sole possession of third place
in the South Division. The top four teams inside the division will advance to
the MACJC State Tournament which will be played in two weeks. Co-Lin has
clinched the top spot in the division with a spotless 11-0 mark, while East
Central is currently in second place in the race with an 8-3 record. The game
between MCC and Jones will also mark homecoming on the campus of Meridian
Community College. The game is set to tip at 5:30 p.m. and the homecoming court
will be introduced at halftime of the opening game.
Sophomore Miaya Crowder led the way in scoring for the Lady
Eagles with 21 points, while Tytianna Hall added 16 points. Freshman Andrianna
James ended the game with 12 points off the bench and Londyn Thomas chipped in
with 11 points.
The MCC men didn’t have the same success Monday night and
dropped its game to Hinds by a final score of 73-56. The Eagles dropped
to 8-11 overall and 2-9 in league play. Ken’Darrius Hamilton led MCC in scoring
with 17 points, while Devontae Brewster added nine points which all came from
beyond the three-point line.
The MCC men will return to action Thursday night against
Jones County Junior College for its homecoming contest which is scheduled for
7:30 p.m.
