MCC Basketball Sweeps Past MGCCC

The Meridian Community College Lady Eagles got back to its
winning ways Monday night by defeating Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College
by a final score of 86-61. The win improves the overall record of the Lady
Eagles to 13-6 and 6-3 in the MACJC South Division. The victory over the Lady
Bulldogs also helped the Lady Eagles sweep the season series. MCC sits in a tie
for third place with Jones County Junior College at 6-3 after Monday night in
the South Division standings. Co-Lin leads the way with a flawless 9-0 record
and East Central trails by two games at 7-2 in the South Division.
MCC got a pair of solid performances Monday night from a
pair of freshman on the squad. Maia McCullum led the team with 20 points off
the bench, while Neiundra Moore poured in 14 points to help lead the charge.
Sophomore Maiya Crowder continued her solid 2014-2015 season by scoring in
double figures with 13 points and Kristen McBeath added 10 points.
The MCC men completed the sweep later in the evening by
defeating Mississippi Gulf Coast by a final of 80-76. The win for the Eagles
snapped a two-game losing skid and helped preserve a season split with the
Bulldogs. Sophomore Brandon Daniels led MCC with 32 points and JD Williams
poured in 20 points off the bench. Devontae Brewster also added 15 points and
12 of those points came from beyond the three-point line. The Eagles improved
to 8-9 overall and 2-7 inside the MACJC South Division.
The MCC squads will return to action Thursday night with a
road doubleheader at Southwest Mississippi Community College. The women will
tip at 5:30 followed by the men at 7:30.
