Jones Sweeps Past MCC

Meridian Community College celebrated homecoming Thursday
night at the Graham Gymnasium by hosting Jones County Junior College in
basketball action, but things didn’t go as planned for MCC. The Lady Eagles
entered play Thursday evening looking to draw closer to securing a spot in the
MACJC State Tournament, but the Lady Bobcats were standing in the way. Jones
traveled to Meridian and came away with a key 99-87 victory over the Lady
Eagles. The loss dropped MCC to 14-8 overall and 7-5 inside the MACJC South
Division.
Tytianna Hall led the way in scoring for the Lady Eagles
with 23 points and Neiundra Moore followed with 18 points. Andrianna James
scored 14 points off the bench for MCC, while sophomore Miaya Crowder also
finished the night with 14 points.
The MCC men also dropped its game on Thursday night by a
final score of 69-59 to the Bobcats. The Eagles dropped to 8-12 overall for the
season and 2-10 in league play. Sophomore Brandon Daniels led the way in
scoring for MCC with 13 points in the loss, while three different players
finished with eight points apiece. Demarius Calvert, Steven Brand, and Phillip
Walker each scored eight points in the game for MCC.
Both teams will return to action Monday night on the road at
Co-Lin. The women will tip at 6 p.m. and the men will follow at 8 p.m.
