MCC Baseball Swept By LSU-Eunice

The Meridian Community College Eagles suffered its fifth straight loss Saturday afternoon and was also dropped the final game in its three-game series with LSU-Eunice by a final score of 3-1. The Eagles dropped its overall record to 23-17 with the series sweep and LSU-Eunice improved to 35-3.

Brandon Smith pitched seven solid innings for MCC and earned a no decision in the contest. Smith gave up just one earned run and finished the game with three strikeouts. LSU-Eunice starting pitcher Chad Boutte also pitched seven strong innings and earned a no decision for the Bengals. Boutte gave up just one earned run and collected four strikeouts.

Jackson Lowery (2-3) suffered the pitching loss out of the bullpen for Meridian by working just one inning and allowing two runs. Both of the runs surrendered by Lowery were not earned runs in the game as MCC made a costly error in the eighth inning to allow LSU-Eunice to score just enough runs to defeat the Eagles.

MCC finished the game with six hits and LSU-Eunice ended the game with 10 hits. Jonathan Youngblood and Johnny Tolson led the Eagles with two hits apiece, while Blake Barrow added a bunt single. Barrow scored the only run of the game for the Eagles which came in the sixth inning.

Dalton Herrington led the charge for the Bengals with three hits, while Landon Thibodeaux added three hits and a pair of RBI’s for LSU-Eunice.

MCC will return to action Tuesday at Scaggs Field against Jones County Junior College in a scheduled doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. Jones will enter the doubleheader after splitting a MACJC doubleheader against Mississippi Gulf Coast on Saturday afternoon (7-3, 0-7) The Bobcats are currently ranked number 16 according to the latest NJCAA Division II Baseball Poll.
