MCC Drops Series Opener At LSU-Eunice

The Meridian Community College Eagles dropped the opening game in its three-game series with LSU-Eunice on the road Thursday night by a final score of 5-4. The Eagles dropped its overall record to 23-15 with the loss and LSU-Eunice improved to 33-3 with the victory.
MCC opened the game with three runs in the top of the first inning to take a 3-0 lead over the Bengals. Wade Wass connected on a three-run home run in the first inning to give the Eagles the lead and that now gives Wass 17 home runs for the season.
Meridian scratched another run across in the top of the fourth inning to extend the lead to 4-0. Johnny Tolson drove in the run for the Eagles on a ground out to give MCC a four-run edge.
The Bengals answered with a run in the sixth inning to cut the MCC lead to 4-1. Scott Carriere drove in the run on an RBI single for LSU-Eunice to bring the Bengals to within three runs. LSU-Eunice tied the game in the bottom of the seventh inning with a three-run home run by Dylan Herrington and Landon Thibodeaux drove in the game winning run on a single in the eighth to give the Bengals the victory.
Michael Manley (5-3) took the pitching loss out of the bullpen by working the final two innings, while Zac Pearson took the pitching win out of the bullpen for the Bengals.
Kasey Hinton and Gabe Woods led the Eagles with two hits apiece for MCC, while Samuel Peterson added a single in the loss. MCC finished the game with six hits, while LSU-Eunice had nine hits. Herrington led the Bengals with three hits and Thibodeaux added a pair of base hits.
MCC will return to action Friday in the second game of the series against LSU-Eunice. The second game of the series will begin at 6 p.m.
