lady Eagles defeat Jones Co. 4-3
(MERIDIAN) - The Meridian Community College women's soccer team picked up a big win versus in-state rival Jones County Junior College on Thursday.
The Lady Eagles won 4-3 as current NJCAA Women's Soccer Player of the Week, sophomore Anastasia Vogel scored a hat-trick with three goals. Sophomore Kelsey Edwards also had a goal for MCC.
The Lady Eagles were up 2-0 at half thanks to goals by Vogel and Edwards.
Jones County come out and scored two goals within the first five minutes of the second half to make it 2-2.
MCC then went up 3-2 after another Vogel score, only to see Jones County tie it up at 3-3. With less than five minutes left, Vogel scored the game winner, her third goal of the game to make it 4-3, MCC.
Edwards and freshman Samantha Smith both had a assist in the win for MCC.
Vogel now has 11 goals to lead team in scoring.
The Lady Eagles improved to 5-0-1 and play at Hinds on the September 28th.
