MCC Releases Fall Golf Schedule

Eagles return five players off of national runner up team, including defending national medalist

(MERIDIAN, Miss.) - The Meridian Community College golf team will play a very familiar fall schedule, competing in five fall tournaments, four of which MCC was active in last fall.

MCC returns five sophomores from last seasons National Championship Runners-Up team, led by reigning NJCAA National Champion Brandt Garon. Garon, who set over six school records last season, was named the Arnold Palmer Award recipient by the Golf Coaches Association of America as the top junior college golfer in the nation. In addition, Garon was named to the GCAA’s First Team All America and All Freshmen Team. Joining Garon will be fellow sophomores Clemens Dvorak, Oscar Mariscal, Adam Monsen, and Bo Reed.

The freshmen class is highlighted by local talent Easton Key. Key, who shined at Lamar School, comes to Meridian with a plethora of experience on the AJGA, MJGA, and SJGT junior golf tours. Joining Key is William Alexander, Josh Ellis, Joel Ivy, Alex Grannon, Ruston Smith and Jake Stirling.

The Eagles will open the season on Sep. 13-14 in Cullman, AL., at the Cullman Golf Course for the Wallace State Fall Invitational hosted by Wallace State-Hanceville. MCC played in the Wallace State Invitational last fall with a third place finish. Then-freshman Brandt Garon served notice that he was a talent to watch as he tied the lowest score in school history with a 66 in round two and went on to defeat Ole Miss signee, Zach Primavera of Central Alabama, by two stokes for the medalist title. The Eagles also shot a school record 13-under par (275) team score in the final round of the Wallace State Invitational last season.

MCC will then play host to the second tournament of the fall season on Sept. 27-28 at Briarwood Country Club for the annual Jim Redgate Invitational. The Eagles will welcome in former NJCAA National Champions- Central Alabama, Darton College and Faulkner State of Alabama along with powerhouse Rend Lake College of Illinois and in-state foes East Central and Gulf Coast to Meridian. University of Mobile and Wallace State-Hanceville are also scheduled to appear in the annual event..

On Oct. 11-12, the Eagles will participate in the District Preview which will be played at Willow Point Golf Club in Alex City, AL., followed with an Oct 25-26 showing in the Lake Caroline Collegiate Invitational played in Madison, MS at lake Caroline Golf Club, where MCC won in 2006.

The Eagles will close out the fall season in Gulfport, MS at Windance Country Club in the Holiday Inn Invitational hosted by Mississippi Gulf Coast on Nov. 8-9. Last season MCC ran away with the Holiday Inn Invitational title by 16 strokes over the nearest competitor. Then-sophomore, Cory Williamson, won the medalist title at Windace last season to make it a clean sweep for the Eagles.
