MCC Basketball Falls to JCJC to Close Regular Season

The 2016-2017 Meridian Community College basketball season
game to a close on Thursday night at the Graham Gymnasium as both teams played
host to Jones County Junior College on Sophomore Night. The night would be
tough for MCC as both teams from JCJC came into action ranked in the top ten
among all teams in the NJCAA with identical 22-1 overall records. The Lady
Eagles dropped its final contest of the season to Jones by a final count of
85-64 and the MCC men lost to the Bobcats by a final of 86-68.
The Lady Eagles finished the regular season with a 9-14
overall record and 3-11 in conference play, while the MCC men closed out the
season with a 3-19 mark and 1-3 in league play. MCC recognized its 2016-2017
sophomore class with a ceremony on Thursday night that took place before the
start of the scheduled men’s contest. The sophomore class from the women’s team
that was honored on Thursday night included: Kashari Gordon (Meridian), Jocelyn
Peters (Petal), Trieshia Jackson (Kenner, LA), Rashonae Rice (Natchez), Takerri
Cooks (Quitman), Halethe Jones (Laurel), and Andriel Moss (Kenner, LA). The
sophomore players from the MCC men’s team that were honored on Thursday night
included: Johnny Knox (Meridian), DJ Mitchell (Pearl), Mike Woodard
(Hattiesburg), Kendall Moore (Montgomery, AL), Timothy Patton (Camden, NJ), and
Ralphael Shaw (Biloxi).
The Lady Eagles finished the season by falling to Jones by a
final count of 85-64. Former Meridian High star Kashari Gordon finished her MCC
career by leading the way in scoring with 11 points, while sophomore Trieshia
Jackson ended the game with 10 points. Freshman Qiayon Bailey also poured in 10
points in the loss and freshman Shannon Tate added eight points off the bench.
The MCC men also didn’t find much luck on Thursday night and
fell to the Bobcats by a final of 86-68 to finish the 2016-2017 regular season.
Johnny Knox led the way in scoring for the Eagles to close out his career with
MCC with 18 points, while Timothy Patton ended the night with 13 points.
Sophomore Ralphael Shaw finished out the season with 12 points for the Eagles
and sophomore Kendall Moore chipped in with six points.
