MCC Tennis Hosts Successful High School Tournament
From School Reports
The Meridian Community College most recently hosted its
annual High School Tennis Doubles Tournament and the field was once again
loaded with great talent from around the area. The tournament consisted of over
70 players from across the state of Mississippi and players from two local high
schools claimed tournament championships in the process. Tori Ferguson and
Kennedy Rodriguez of Newton County High School claimed the women’s doubles
title, while Joel Hill of Newton County High School and Ethan Clopton of
Meridian High School claimed the men’s title.
The tournament was held back on February 6-7 on the tennis
courts at Meridian Community College which are adjacent to the Damon Fitness
Center. The 2016 Meridian Community College tennis season is currently underway
as both teams are in action this week.
The MCC tennis teams will be in conference action on Friday
at the Northeast Tennis Center against Holmes Community College. The matches
against Holmes are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. on Friday afternoon. The two
teams will then face East Central Community College on Saturday morning at 9
a.m. in Decatur and then the MCC women will head back to Meridian later that
day to take on Central Alabama Community College. The matches against CACC are
slated to begin at 1 p.m. and will be played on the tennis courts at MCC.
