MCC Baseball Star Named POTW
From School Reports
The Meridian Community College baseball team opened its 2016
season back on Saturday with a decisive pair of victories (13-1, 14-4) over
visiting Bishop State and one player has received special recognition from his
performance against the visiting Wildcats. Sophomore shortstop Jaylon Keys was
named the MACJC Player of the Week on Tuesday afternoon by voting members of
the conference. Keys, a native of Bay Springs, led MCC at the plate with a pair
of home runs in the doubleheader sweep of Bishop State.
Keys finished the two-game set by going 6-for-8 at the plate
with two homers, one double, three singles, five runs scored, and three RBI’s.
Keys played his high school baseball at Northeast Jones High School and has
already signed a baseball scholarship to play next season for former MCC head
coach Scott Berry at Southern Mississippi.
The MCC baseball team will return to action on Thursday with
a road doubleheader at Wallace-Selma and then will return home this weekend to
host the Rush Invitational Tournament at Scaggs Field. MCC will open play in
the tournament on Saturday afternoon against Jefferson College (MO.) in
doubleheader action beginning at 1 p.m.
