MCC Baseball Sweeps Past Wallace-Selma

The Meridian Community College baseball team returned to
action on Thursday by taking its first road trip of the season and the trip was
ultimately successful for the Eagles. MCC came away with a doubleheader sweep
(10-3, 6-4) over Wallace-Selma to move its overall record to a perfect 4-0.
MCC will return to action this weekend by hosting the
annual Rush Invitational Tournament at Scaggs Field. MCC will take on Jefferson
College (MO.) on Saturday to open the tournament with a doubleheader at 1 p.m.
MCC got off to a hot start in Game One on Thursday
against Wallace-Selma to cruise to a 10-3 victory. Baylor Obert led the way
offensively in Game One for the Eagles with a homer, single, and four RBI's.
Chase Coker and Jaylon Keys each added a pair of base hits, while Matt Berler
added an RBI double in the seven-run victory.
Kyle Bayles picked up his first pitching victory of the
season by working four innings and collecting four strikeouts.
MCC had to battle back from a three-run deficit in Game
Two to come away with a 6-4 victory over Wallace-Selma to complete the sweep.
Obert continued to swing a hot bat in Game Two by notching a pair of hits and
one RBI, while Berler also finished Game Two with a pair of hits.
Hunter Mullis tossed a complete game for the Eagles on
the mound and finished with 11 strikeouts. Mullis allowed four runs in the
first inning and would bounce back to retire 13 batters in a row at one point
in the game.
