MCC Soccer Splits Road Set With MGCCC

Perkinston, MS - The Meridian Community College Lady Eagles
continued its winning ways on Tuesday night by taking a 3-1 road victory over
Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. Freshman Effie Morrison continued her
strong offensive season by scoring two goals in the MACJC South Division win
over the Lady Bulldogs. Morrison scored her first goal of the game in the
opening minutes of the second half on an assist by Madison Drummond to give MCC
a 1-0 edge over Gulf Coast.
Former Northeast Lauderdale standout Kedrianna Cole followed
with a goal of her own a few moments later and Morrison added her second goal
of the match later in the half to give the Lady Eagles the victory. The lone
goal in the match for the Lady Bulldogs came in the second half on a penalty
kick. The MCC men couldn’t complete the sweep by falling to Mississippi Gulf
Coast by a final score of 5-0.
The MCC women improved to 3-3-1 and 2-2 in South Division
play, while the MCC men fell to 1-6 overall and 0-4 in divisional play.
MCC will return to action this Friday by playing host to
Co-Lin for another key South Division doubleheader. The MCC men will take to
the field at 2 p.m. and the MCC women will follow at 4 p.m. The home matches on
Friday for MCC will also open a home stand that will stretch over the next
three weeks. MCC will play host to Northwest (September 22), Holmes (September
25), Hinds (September 29), Jones (October 6), and Pearl River (October 9) over
a three-week stretch. The dates are all scheduled doubleheaders at C.D. Smith
Field.
