MCC Cross Country Posts Top 10 Finish
From School Reports
Memphis, TN – MCC opened
their 2015 cross country season Saturday evening at the Memphis Twilight
Classic hosted by Christian Brothers University by posting an 8th
place finish at the prestigious event.
“I was very pleased with how
we performed this evening especially this late in the evening and dealing with
the heat and humidity,” said Head Coach Chip Gayden. “I came away very
impressed with how our freshmen did. The stepped up to the challenge and
to have four out of our top 5 be freshmen really says a lot about our last
recruiting class.”
MCC’s men’s team was led by
sophomore Djano Sedrick who finished 40th in a time of 22:11.6 for
the four mile course. He was followed by freshman Rogelio Araiza who
finished 41st in a time of 22:14.2. Rounding out MCC’s top
five was freshman Daryl Jones who finished 49th in a time of 22:40.2, freshman
Tim Hoodlebrink who finished 61st in a time of 23:23.1 and freshman Dustin
Darby who finished 74th in 23:51.2
On the women’s side Esmeralda
Rodriguez turned in a 56th place finish in a time of 21:45.1 for the
5k course.
“I was extremely pleased with
Esmeralda in her first race since last October,” said Gayden. “She came
in a little nervous and came through the first mile flying and she kind of lost
her confidence in the middle of the race, but finished really strong.”
Next up for MCC is the Rhodes
College Invitational in Memphis on September 26th.
