MCC Soccer Splits Home Set With ICC

The Meridian Community College Lady Eagles returned to
soccer action on Tuesday evening looking to notch its first win of the 2015
season against Itawamba Community College. The Lady Eagles ran away with its
first win of the campaign by defeating the Lady Indians in shutout fashion by a
final score of 4-0. MCC (1-1) collected a pair of goals in the opening half to
take a 2-0 lead over ICC. MCC would put the game away for good in the second
half with two more goals to take the 4-0 victory over the Lady Indians
Effie Morrison scored her first goal of the season on an
assist by Emily Brewer in the 57th minute to give the Lady Eagles a
3-0 lead. MCC would put the finishing touches on its first win of the season as
Lacy Billings scored her first goal of the season on an assist by Abbey Pate to
propel the home team to a 4-0 victory.
The MCC men were also looking to get back into the win
column after defeating East Central Community College to open the season last
Friday, but it just wasn’t meant to be on Tuesday evening at C.D. Smith Field.
Itawamba avoided the road sweep and collected a 4-0 shutout victory to hand the
MCC men its first loss of the 2015 season.
MCC will return to action on September 1 with a road
doubleheader at Northwest Mississippi Community College. The MCC women will
take to the field at 2 p.m. and the MCC men will follow with its match at 4
p.m.
