MCC Opens 2015 Soccer Season
From School Reports
The wait is finally over and soccer season has finally
arrived on the campus of Meridian Community College. The Meridian Community
College soccer program opened the 2015 season back on Friday afternoon by
hosting East Central Community College at C.D. Smith Field in a doubleheader.
MCC was able to come away with a doubleheader split with ECCC to open the
season in a pair of matches that were closely contested between the two
schools.
The Meridian Community College men opened up the day by
taking a dramatic 2-1 victory over ECCC to give the Eagles the season opening
victory. MCC trailed the Warriors 1-0 after one half of play, but the home team
was to battle back behind its newest freshman sensation. Freshman Jordan Walton
scored his first collegiate goal for the Eagles in the opening minutes of the
second half to bring the match to a 1-1 tie.
The match would head into a pair of extra sessions and
Walton would score his second goal of the day in the second extra session to
propel the Eagles to the one-goal victory over ECCC.
The MCC women weren't as fortunate on Friday afternoon as
the ECCC women came away with a 2-0 shutout victory to preserve the road split.
East Central scored one goal in each half to take the shutout victory over the
Lady Eagles to open the 2015 season.
MCC will return to the field with another pair of home
games on Tuesday by hosting Itawamba Community College at C.D. Smith Field. The
women will take to the field at 5 p.m. and the men will follow with their
scheduled match at 7 p.m.
