MCC Goalkeeper Honored With Award
From School Reports
The Meridian Community College men’s soccer team got off to
a great start last Friday by opening the season with a 2-1 overtime victory
over East Central Community College and one player is receiving special
recognition for his individual performance. Freshman goalkeeper Joe Smith was
selected on Monday afternoon as the recipient of the MACJC Goalkeeper of the
Week as voted on by representatives of each participating school in the
conference.
Smith attended Greene County High School and had a
superlative performance in the one-goal victory over the Warriors to open the
2015 season back on Friday. Smith collected 12 saves
in the victory and played the entire match at keeper for the Eagles.
MCC is scheduled to return to
action on Tuesday at home against Itawamba Community College in doubleheader
action. The MCC women will take to the field at 5 p.m. and the MCC men will
play at 7 p.m. The next scheduled home games for the two squads after Tuesday
night will be on September 11 against Southwest Mississippi Community College
at C.D. Smith Field.
