MCC Soccer Splits Set With Southwest

The Meridian Community College soccer squads returned to
action back on Friday by hosting a doubleheader against Southwest Mississippi
Community College at C.D. Smith Field. The MCC women bounced back in a big way
by taking a 5-2 victory over the Lady Bears, while the MCC men dropped a 2-0
decision to Southwest. The MCC women improved to 2-3-1 overall for the season
and 1-2 in South Division play, while the MCC men fell to 1-5 overall and 0-3
in division play.
Freshman striker Effie Morrison recorded her first career
hat trick to lead the Lady Eagles to an impressive 5-2 win over Southwest. The
former New Hope High School standout scored two goals in the first half and
later added her third goal in the second half of action. Former Northeast
Lauderdale star Kedrianna Cole collected a goal in the victory, while Abbie
Pope also notched a goal. Emily Brewer, Madison Drummond, and former Northeast
Lauderdale star Kaytee Nelson earned one assist apiece in the match.
The MCC men just couldn’t find much momentum in its contest
and fell to Southwest by a final of 2-0. The Bears scored both its goals in the
second half to propel the road team to the win. MCC will return to action
Tuesday with a pair of South Division road matches at Mississippi Gulf Coast
Community College. The Lady Eagles will take to the field at 5 p.m. and the
Eagles will take on Gulf Coast at 7 p.m.
